Visitors

All visitors to Calvary Hospital are asked to use the antiseptic hand rub that is found at the entrance to each ward. This should be used by every visitor (and of all ages) on arrival at and departure from the ward area.

The use of this hand rub is recommended in hospitals, and conforms to agreed infection control best practice. The purpose of the hand rub is to kill any germs that are being carried on peoples’ hands. By using the hand rub on entry and departure, the risk of infection being brought into the hospital or taken from the hospital to the community is markedly reduced.

We recommend that you have no more than three visitors at your bedside at any one time for your own comfort and the comfort of other patients. If you wish to limit your visitors in any way, please talk to the ward staff about this matter.

Children are very welcome visitors in most areas, but we ask that they are appropriately supervised at all times they are in Calvary Hospital.

Visiting hours vary from ward to ward, so please check with a member of the clinical team or the ward clerk regarding the visiting hours for your area.

In general, visitors are welcome between 11am and 8pm excluding a rest period in the middle of the day from 1.00pm to 3.00pm.

The Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit and Clare Holland House allow visitors 24 hours of the day unless otherwise advised.

Transport and Access
Mary Potter Circuit runs off Hayden Drive, which can be accessed from either Belconnen Way or Ginninderra Drive.

Car Parking
There is plentiful car parking around Calvary Hospital, however during busy times the parking area opposite the main entry may be full. If this occurs you should continue north along Mary Potter Circuit and it is recommended you enter the gravel car park behind Rotary Cottage.

Special parking conditions and parking time limitations (as shown on the parking signs) are enforced and infringement notices will be issued to vehicles overstaying or breaching parking conditions.

If you have a set appointment at Calvary Hospital it is recommended you allow a little extra time just in case your first car park option is not available.

Public Transport
ACTION Buses service Calvary Hospital on a regular basis during the day and evenings.

ACTION Service No 3 (Monday to Friday) and Service No 934 (Weekends & Public Holidays) travel along Mary Potter Circuit and set down and pick-up passengers at three stops adjacent to Calvary Hospital’s public access points.

ACTION Services 300,312,313,314,315, 318 and 319 (Monday to Friday) and Service No 900 (Weekends & Public Holidays) travel along Haydon Drive and pick-up and set down at a bus stop about 250 metres from Calvary Hospital’s main entrance.

Taxis
All Canberra Taxis serve Calvary Hospital. There is a ‘cab-point’ number identified at each entry and this should be quoted when a taxi is requested.

Accommodation
Rotary Cottage is a facility built by the Rotary Club of Belconnen for use as short-term accommodation for people visiting Calvary for a medical appointment or for family and carers accompanying a patient during a procedure or stay at Calvary.

While Rotary Cottage is primarily for the use of interstate patients and support people, in special circumstances local people can stay at Rotary Cottage to minimise the difficulties and stresses associated with being an inpatient at Calvary Hospital.

The accommodation at Rotary Cottage is limited and it needs to be booked in advance. There is a small cost for the accommodation, which in some cases is refundable to interstate patients. For more information about Rotary Cottage please contact the Hospitality Manager through the Calvary Switchboard on 6201 6111 or email to accommodation@calvary-act.com.au

As a rule, Rotary Cottage is not available to people visiting patients at Calvary Hospital.
