Private Hospital – Maternity Welcome to Calvary Private Maternity Unit. One of life’s greatest joys is the birth of a child. Naturally you want to give your baby the best and Calvary Private Maternity is a great place to start. The Maternity Unit at Calvary Private is located on Level Three in the Marian building. The most convenient entrance to the Marian building is an entrance just beside the Calvary Emergency Department. OUR PHILOSOPHYCalvary Private Maternity’s experienced Obstetricians and Midwives are dedicated to providing you with the highest quality of care in the best available facilities. The Calvary Private Maternity Unit embodies the four values of the Little Company of Mary – Hospitality, Healing, Stewardship and Respect. These values will be displayed and practiced by all of the Calvary personnel you meet during your stay. OUR FACILITIESThe birth suite has five birthing rooms all with ensuite facilities. The postnatal ward offers you comfort and privacy. All rooms are single rooms with ensuite facilities, many with double beds. A television and telephone are provided in each room with unlimited free local calls. Two executive suites are available. These are much larger rooms which include a lounge area, microwave, fridge and a bath. There may be an additional out of pocket charge for an executive suite, depending on your health fund. Your partner is most welcome to stay with you during those first important days of your new family life. There is no charge for your partner to stay and no restriction on how long or how often they may stay. Meals can be ordered for your partner at a minimal cost. Calvary Private Maternity supports 24 hour rooming in for healthy mothers and babies, so your baby will stay with you in your room. For many women pregnancy and birth proceeds normally, however some women may require assistance during the birthing process, such as induction of labour, forceps, vacuum or caesarean section. If this occurs Calvary Private Maternity has all the modern facilities and equipment to manage the unexpected events. Tours of Calvary Private Maternity are held every Sunday at 3pm. If you would like to take part in a tour the group meets in the lounge area of the Private Maternity Unit at 3pm. One of the midwives will meet you and lead the tour. No booking is required. HOW DO I BOOK INTO THE HOSPITALYou will need to have an Obstetrician who attends Calvary Private Hospital. Your Obstetrician will send the necessary forms to us and we will send you an information package in the mail. This package will include brochures and an admission form for you to fill out and return to us. Once we have received the form from you the booking is complete. Around the 26th week of your pregnancy we recommend you attend a pre-admission interview with a Private Hospital Midwife to discuss your history and any special requests you may have concerning your stay. ANTENATAL CLASSESCalvary Private Maternity offers a variety of parent education classes facilitated by midwives and physiotherapists. These include a one day workshop, evening classes, refresher classes, elective caesarean classes, vaginal birth after caesarean classes and breastfeeding classes. WHAT TO BRING TO HOSPITALYou will need to bring your antenatal record, Health Insurance card and Medicare Card. Requirements for you Requirements for baby VISITING HOURSVisitors should be limited to a few at any one time. Children are welcome but must be accompanied by a responsible adult. General visiting hours are from 3pm to 5pm and 7pm to 8pm. Support people and siblings are welcome anytime between 8am to 9pm except during rest period. We have a strict no-visitor policy between 12.30pm and 3pm to allow you to rest. AFTER BABY IS BORNAfter your baby is born you and your baby will receive every possible assistance and support from the Calvary Private Maternity team. To assist you in your physical recovery after birth a “Shape Up after Birth” class is held at 10am every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the Parent Education Room. Sessions are facilitated by a women’s health physiotherapist and all new mother s are encouraged to attend OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATIONRest Time GOING HOMEIt is normal to stay 4 nights after a vaginal birth and 5 nights after a caesarean birth. Midcall is available for mothers and babies who choose the early discharge option. Midcall provides home visits for mothers and their babies by one of our midwives in the immediate postnatal period. On the day you that you leave hospital you will be seen by your doctor to ensure you and your baby are well enough to leave the care of the hospital. To enable preparation of the room for new patients, we ask that you vacate your room by 10.00 am. Before you leave ensure that you have been given your Birth Registration paper, Centrelink pack and Baby Personal Health record book. Centrelink papers cannot be reissued by the Hospital if you misplace them, so please ensure these documents are stored in a safe place. Baby Capsule |
